Filing a consumer proposal does not affect your income tax refund.

When you file a consumer proposal you file your own income tax return the same way you always would. Any refund that is owed will be paid to you directly.

Filing a consumer proposal does not affect your ability to e-file your income tax return and get your refund automatically deposited to your bank account. Many people change bank accounts as part of the consumer proposal process to help them to get a fresh start. If you changed your bank account when you filed your consumer proposal remember to contact CRA and make sure that they have your current banking information.

One of the biggest reasons people don’t get their refunds in a timely manner is because CRA has incorrect banking information.
